Mission Statement

The Kogod Accounting Club at American University aims to develop and support a network of students who share interest in the fields of Accounting and Taxation. Membership is comprised of current undergraduate and graduate students of the Kogod School of Business, as well as both recent and experienced alumni. Throughout the academic year, the Accounting Club will organize a variety of events designed to meet students’ needs in areas including CPA exam preparation, career development, networking opportunities, and community service.

About Us

The Kogod Accounting Club at American University was re-established in 2007 by Professor Marcum as a way to provide students with a solid opportunity to network with fellow Accounting students, Alums, and potential employers throughout the DC area while staying updated on scholarship opportunities, Accounting competitions, and volunteer events. While we often take the Accounting Club for granted, it is certainly a unique and special group, as no other DC-area University or College has such a program devoted to their Accounting Students.

Our 2014-2015 Kogod Accounting Club events included a month of "Recruiting Season" networking events with Big 4 and mid-size DC area Accounting firms, tabling events with Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and KPMG, a special Deloitte breakfast event for MSA students, a tribute event for Professor Marcum, a "Beyond the Big 4" networking event with over 12 small and mid-size DC area Accounting firms, a "More than the Numbers" student discussion panel on the Accounting profession, Monday and Tuesday night graduate lecture events with guest speakers from a variety of DC area Accounting firms, professional development workshops, including an "Interview Tips and Tricks" event and "Dress for Career Success" seminar, and much more!

All of our work is done in memory of Professor Marcum in order to assist Accounting students in entering a successful career after graduation, just as she planned when re-establishing the club in 2007. For more information on Professor Marcum, view the Professor Marcum tribute video here.
